If you’re looking for things to do for Mother’s Day, look no further. We have a list of six things to do for Mother’s Day that is sure to have something for just about any mom.

Things to do for Mother’s Day

These can be tailored to involve just you and your mom or the whole family. It’s up to you what your Mother’s Day will look like.

1. Have a heartfelt chat with your mom.

Make a cup of tea or coffee (or pour a glass of wine, depending on the time of day) and sit down with your mom for a chat. You can do this over the phone or in person. Ask your mom to tell a favorite memory of you growing up.

Ask her what her struggles have been as a mom. Share one of your fond memories of growing up involving her. Tell her what you admire about her. Ask any other questions you may have.

If you’re looking for more ideas on what you can ask, take a look at 15 Questions to Ask Your Mom This Mother’s Day or download our Conversations with Mom workbook for 25 questions.

2. Take a generational photo.

If you live near your mom and don’t have a generational photo showing your children with you and your mom all together, then make a point of taking one this Mother’s Day. There’s nothing like seeing multiple generations lined up in a picture.

3. Make a one-of-a-kind gift.

What mom doesn’t love a useful, handmade gift? I’ve made several gifts throughout the years for my mom that involved using my girls’ hand- or fingerprints or their artwork. We’ve made tote bags where their hands became flower petals, bookmarks with fingerprint flowers, and coasters from plain white ceramic coasters we found at a craft store that the girls painted pictures on. Some years, I even made an extra one for myself because I loved the gift idea so much. If you search for “Mother’s Day craft ideas” on Pinterest, you’ll get a ton of ideas you can pick from to meet the crafting ability of you and your child.

4. Plan a spa day.

If you’re a mom as well, plan it for the two of you. All moms deserve to be pampered! This can be as elaborate or simple as you want. Not big on spa treatments? Go for something simple, like a manicure or pedicure. Love being pampered? Schedule a massage, facial, and mani-pedi. Make it a day your mom (and you) will enjoy.

5. Get outside.

If your mom is an outdoorsy type, plan a hike or picnic with her. Is there a park in your area with trails? Any waterfalls or rivers? If you’re in the middle of a city and there aren’t any green areas, then see if there are any spots a short drive away. Or maybe get outside at the local zoo or botanical gardens. See what you can find in your area and get planning.

6. Treat your mom to a meal.

When I think of Mother’s Day, brunch comes to mind. If you can, make reservations early. If going to a restaurant and dealing with the Mother’s Day crowd doesn’t sound fun, then get an order to go. Most restaurants, especially now, have options to order over the phone or online and either have your order delivered or ready for pick up.

Whatever activity you decide on, your mom is sure to be happy to be spending some quality time with you.
